The Maréchalerie: Centre d’Art Contemporain

The Maréchalerie, located behind the Petite Ecurie, was built in 1678-1682 by J. Hardouin-Mansart to house the king's carriage horses and coaches. This building, initially meant to house additional stalls and services for the horses (blacksmith shops and veterinary services), was restored and inaugurated in 2004.

It now houses the Versailles Centre d’Art Contemporain, built at the initiative of the Ecole nationale d’architecture de Versailles, making it a place to reflect on the relationships between contemporary art and cultural heritage. Exhibitions take place there several times a year.
