La Quintinie created the King's Kitchen Garden in 1678 to provide for
the Court's huge needs. The old divisions of the kitchen garden
were preserved, with their hollow sections, stretching over nine hectares.
The King's Kitchen Garden is now the national school of horticulture.
It ends with a small XVIIIth century landscaped garden,
the Balbi garden, laid out by Chalgrin.
