Today
it houses the municipal library. Louis XV's Ministry of
Foreign Affairs
was the precursor of the present French Foreign Office.
This building was built in 1761 by Jean-Baptiste Berthier,
who was
the father of the famous Marshall of the Empire.
Ministers Choiseul and Vergennes had their offices here.
The alliance between
France and the American insurgents and, in 1783, the signature
of the Treaty
establishing the Independance of the States were prepared
in this building.
